Landaco Calculator FAQ

Why use Dynamic Calibration?

Most dealers recommend turning Dynamic Mode off. We disagree.

They often advise this because dynamic settings can be complex to configure, and incorrect settings lead to rate fluctuation. However, disabling it means your spreader cannot react to changes in product density or flow characteristics.

When calibrated correctly, Dynamic Mode ensures your application rate remains accurate even as bulk density changes across the paddock. Use this tool to find the perfect stability settings for your Topcon Loadcells.

How to Optimise Your Controller

1. Input Machine Data

Enter your spread width, target rate, and typical ground speed. Select your spreader brand (Landaco, Bunning, or Other) to establish the baseline geometry.

2. Enter Topcon Settings

Input your current Correction Span, Dynamic Time, and Static Weights directly from your controller screen.

3. Analyse & Adjust

The calculator will analyse your "Dynamic Cycle." If your Dynamic Time is too short for the weight sample, use the recommended values to stabilise your rate.

Expert Troubleshooting

The Issue: Rate "Hunting"

If your application rate jumps up and down erratically, your Dynamic Time is likely too short. The system is trying to correct itself based on a sample of product that is too small to be accurate.

Solution: Increase Dynamic Time

The Issue: Slow Reaction

If the spreader takes too long to correct a rate error (e.g., after changing speed), your Correction Span or dampening percentages might be too high.

Solution: Reduce Correction Span %

General Information & Requirements

The Landaco Spreader Dynamic Settings Calculator is a free web tool that generates optimised parameters for Topcon's Dynamic Calibration Mode with load cell scale integration. You manually input the calculator's outputs (Dynamic Weight, Dynamic Time, Flow Factor, and Tolerance Percentage) into your Topcon Athene controller interface.

Designed for spreaders with SL2 or Atlas scale modules (SL2 preferred), the tool ensures reliable calibration results in minimal passes using real-time load cell feedback. Unlike static calibration methods, Dynamic Mode uses continuous weight feedback to achieve ±2% application accuracy essential for precision agriculture.

Yes, load cells are mandatory. The calculator is purpose-built for Topcon's Dynamic Calibration Mode, which requires live weight feedback from SL2 or Atlas scale modules integrated through the Topcon Athene controller.

Without load cells, Dynamic Mode cannot function - the system has no feedback loop to verify actual product delivery versus target rate. We recommend the SL2 module for its superior noise filtering and faster CAN bus communication, ensuring the real-time adjustments needed for precise application control.

Landaco protects your Topcon controller by housing it in a fully sealed, waterproof enclosure integrated into the spreader frame. Unlike most manufacturers who externally mount controllers exposed to dust, moisture, and UV damage, Landaco's design meets IP67 standards, preventing the corrosion and connector degradation that cause 70% of controller failures.

This Australian-engineered protection extends operational life by 3-5 years compared to exposed installations.

Calibration & Settings

The calculator uses a universal physics model based on hydraulic flow rates and load cell feedback, effective across all product types (urea, lime, manure, etc.). Users receive intelligent feedback, such as suggestions to adjust Dynamic Time or Weight if ratios are unbalanced.

The Performance Calculations section displays expected accuracy, time requirements, and confidence intervals. Landaco is also developing dedicated product profiles for granular fertilisers, manures, and lime/gypsum that will auto-populate density and flow characteristics.

Yes. The calculator optimises your Dynamic Calibration Mode parameters - the foundation for accurate VRT execution. Once calibrated, your Topcon controller can execute prescription maps from platforms like Auravant, PCT Agcloud, or John Deere Operations Center.

The tool ensures correct response time and flow stability, preventing lag and overshoot that compromise VRT accuracy. Landaco customers receive pre-configured VRT settings for common Australian fertiliser blends.

The red indicator shows potential calibration instability based on your inputs. This occurs when:

  • Dynamic Weight is too high relative to your spreader's flow capacity
  • Dynamic Time is too short for reliable weight measurement
  • Flow Factor values fall outside optimal range for your hydraulic system

The calculator provides specific suggestions to adjust weight/time ratios or gate height. A red indicator is a preventive warning - follow recommendations to ensure successful Dynamic Calibration in 2-3 passes.

Contact Landaco for personalised training before entering calculator values. While values appear in your Topcon Athene's Dynamic Calibration menu, incorrect parameter entry can cause over-application, equipment damage, or calibration failure.

Navigation varies by terminal version. Landaco provides free remote training sessions to ensure safe calibration - using the tool without proper training may void warranty coverage.

Support & Compatibility

Absolutely. While Landaco spreaders ship with factory-optimised settings, load cell physics and hydraulic drive control are universal. The calculator works with any hydraulic-drive spreader running Topcon ISO controllers with scale integration, including Agri-Spread, Bunning, Hansa, Marshall, Amazone, Bredal, and other compatible brands.

Requirements: Functioning SL2 or Atlas scale module and Topcon controller.

We provide comprehensive remote support - no on-site commissioning is required. Every new Landaco spreader ships with pre-calculated base settings for common Australian fertilisers.

For custom requirements (unusual products, specific spread widths, unique field conditions), our engineering team provides personalised parameter sets via phone or email consultation. We also offer free video training sessions covering Dynamic Calibration execution, troubleshooting, and seasonal recalibration. This direct factory-to-farmer support ensures expert guidance without dealer markup or delays.

DISCLAIMER: The results provided by this calculator are theoretical recommendations based on standard material properties and controller logic. Real-world performance may be affected by variables including humidity, product consistency, terrain inclination and mechanical wear. Landaco Equipment recommends performing a physical catch-test to verify actual application rates before commencing full-scale field operations. Landaco accepts no liability for application errors, yield loss or input costs resulting from the use of these settings.
